Phil Goodwin of Henderson went to war on the Charger division on Military Appreciation Night at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and to the victor went the spoils. Goodwin took the lead on the fourth lap of the first 20-lap Charger feature and went on to win ahead of teammate Mario Opipari and Mike Heck.

The starting line-up was inverted for the second 20-lap Charger feature and pole-sitter Vinny Raucci left the field in his wake, trailed by Mike Heck. Although Goodwin started at the rear after winning the first feature, he charged up to third place by lap 3.  Goodwin moved past Heck for second place on lap 6 and took off after Raucci. Phil drove to the inside of Raucci on lap 13 in Turn 3 and raced into the lead.  Seven laps later, he scored his second win of the night - and his eighth of the season. Utah's Mike Heck finished second and Raucci was third.

Saturday night's stock car racing program at the Bullring was cancelled due to weather, will be rescheduled
Saturday, May 24, 2008

(May 24) Tonight's stock car racing program at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been cancelled due to weather.  The annual Keith Danser Candy Toss will be rescheduled to a later date on the 2008 racing calendar.

"The Bullring was hit with two rainstorms this morning and tonight’s forecasts all call for more rain," said Chris Blair, LVMS’ vice president of racing operations. "The rain, coupled with wind and low temperatures caused us to make this decision. We are cancelling at 12:30 p.m. in order to allow our fans and race teams to make other plans."

Chargers

Vinny Raucci led the first lap of the Charger feature, only to see the caution flag fly for a twin spin in Turn 4 involving Becky Torbergson and John Wright. Utah's Mike Heck took the lead on the restart, followed by Mario Opipari. Opipari grabbed the lead on lap 2 and began to pull away from the pack as Phil Goodwin battled with Heck.  Opipari's lead was erased when Chuck Burgess spun on the front chute.  The restart was a familiar sight: Opipari battling Goodwin.  Goodwin, who arrived late at the track after having to change the engine in his car, motored past Opipari on the inside on lap 8 for the lead.  Goodwin went on to win, followed by Opipari and Heck.  Raucci and Don Sargent completed the top five.

Charger’s Saturday April 26, 2008

Mario Opipari took the lead on the second circuit of the 25-lap Charger feature and appeared to have everything going his way until teammate Phil Goodwin began challenging him at the halfway point.  Goodwin raced under Opipari on lap 12 to grab the lead.  The pair raced thorough lapped traffic in the closing laps of the feature but Goodwin built up a comfortable lead and scored the win. Opipari finished second and Utah's Mike Heck finished third.  New York City's Vinny Raucci and Henderson's Darren Rollins completed the top five.

Charger heats were won by Vinny Raucci and Joe Finger.

Charger Division

On Saturday night April 5th, we had our 2nd race week out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway – Bullring. During the charger heat race the #69 took 2nd place behind the #98 of Travis Boyle. During the 25 lap Budweiser Charger feature race the #69 started on the inside pole, after a quick run to the front #35 Phil Goodwin took the lead. The #69 was then passed by Mike Heck who waived the #53 car of Mario Opipari by. The #69 finished with a respectable 4th place finish. If we would have had more time we might have been able to catch the #8 Mike Heck and then the #53 Mario Opipari, but Phil #35 had the race in the bag by this point. Maybe in the next race on Saturday April 19, 2008.
